 Families E.T.C. is committed to providing opportunities for professional growth, methods to improve client care, and maintenance of professional standards.


Continuing education helps counselors stay current with the latest research, techniques, and best practices in the field. By updating their knowledge and skills, counselors can provide more effective, ethical, and compassionate care to their clients. Continuing education helps counselors meet the standards of their professional organizations and licensing boards.

Our Presenter

  James L Furrow, Ph.D., is an innovative leader in the development and practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples and families. His research, writing, and training guide therapists toward the effective use of emotion to transform relationships and engage resilience for a flourishing life. 


His work is featured in leading professional journals and core EFT texts including:  Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, The EFT Casebook, and Becoming an Emotionally Focused Therapist: The Workbook. He is a clinical fellow and an approved supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. 


He resides in Seattle, Washington USA where he maintains a clinical practice, teaches courses at Seattle University, and conducts professional training internationally. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified EFT supervisor and trainer.

Learning Objectives

 By attending, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the process and characteristics of recovery from a relationship betrayal.
  • Conceptualize the treatment of attachment injuries within the EFT process of change.
  • Apply EFT interventions that foster stabilization in the context of heightened distress common following disclosure of relationship betrayals.
  • Promote partner’s access and sharing of pain, loss, and remorse associated related to an attachment injury.
  • Identify EFT interventions and practices that enable couples to renew trust and re-engage new patterns of security following a relationship injury.

*  Explore the process of attachment injury  

    repair through Emotionally Focused Therapy 

    (EFT).

*  Practice strategies for managing the 

    dysregulation common in facing broken trust.

*  Explore the process of attachment injury 

    resolution through the EFT process of change. 

*  Identify EFT practices that support partners 

    developing a coherent narrative for a betrayal 

    event and working toward renewed trust.
