Workshop summary:
This workshop introduces participants to Brainspotting, a powerful, brain-based therapeutic approach developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. Brainspotting was developed from EMDR and is rooted in neurobiology, attunement, somatic processing, and mindfulness. Brainspotting uses eye position to access and process unprocessed trauma, emotional pain, and performance blocks stored in the subcortical brain. A live demonstration will provide an opportunity to observe the process in action, deepening participants’ understanding of how Brainspotting accesses the brain-body connection to facilitate healing and change. The workshop will also introduce pathways for further learning, including formal training opportunities for those interested in integrating Brainspotting into their professional practice.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the core principles of Brainspotting and how it differs from traditional talk therapy approaches.
  • Explain the concept of “where you look affects how you feel.”
  • Observe and articulate key elements of a Brainspotting session, based on the live demonstration and discussion.
  • Evaluate the potential applications of Brainspotting within their own professional or personal context and identify next steps for formal training and skill development.

Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRIĀ®) is an evidence-based, holistic, and attachment-based approach designed to support children and youth who have experienced complex trauma, such as abuse, neglect, or separation from caregivers. Developed by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development (KPICD) at Texas Christian University, it focuses on healing the "whole child" by addressing trauma's impact on the brain, body, and behavior.

Learning Objectives:

The TBRIĀ® Overview Class is a glimpse into the three principles that are central to the use of

  • Connecting - These build trust and 'felt' safety to disarm fear and enhance relationships.
  • Empowering - These strengthen the child’s brain and body by meeting physical and environmental needs.
  • Correcting - These are used to teach, rather than merely punish, by equipping children with social and behavioral tools.

Workshop summary:

An introduction to the innovative counseling approach called MeaningPlay. An overview of the foundational principles of Logotherapy on which MeaningPlay is based and highlight aspects of attachment theory that are integrated into MeaningPlay, including the concept of the Internal Working Model, with an expanded Logophilosophy lens.

This workshop will also show how Miguel de Unamuno's existential thinking complements Frankl's Logotherapy by adding deep introspection that fits the foundational principles of Logotherapy and thus MeaningPlay. Further, demonstration on how that theoretical base leads to the three broad goals of MeaningPlay: play enhancement, meaning orientation, and attachment and sensory system strengthening. Exploration on how MeaningPlay activates or incorporates the therapeutic powers of play to foster healing and wellness. Workshop will address potential concerns, limitations, or important considerations regarding the use of MeaningPlay. Application of MeaningPlay using a case presentation based on a depersonalized conglomeration of therapist’s counseling encounters.

 Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Articulate the theoretical principles of Logotherapy, some of the relevant philosophical thoughts of Miguel de Unamuno, and their integration with attachment theory, which form the basis of the MeaningPlay theoretical orientation.
  • Describe how MeaningPlay's three broad goals rest on its theoretical foundations.
  • Explain the activation or incorporation of at least three of the therapeutic powers of play in MeaningPlay therapy .
  • Analyze concerns, limitations, and considerations regarding therapy from a MeaningPlay perspective.
  • Assess an example of the application of MeaningPlay.
